Replacement front sight for the German G43 and K43 rifle. Correct profile for restoration projects. Oversized version available for worn dovetails.
The front sight of the G43 and K43 forms the forward reference point of the rifle's open sighting system and works together with the tangent rear sight to provide a consistent sight picture. Although mechanically simple, the front sight has a direct influence on practical accuracy, making correct alignment and secure installation essential.
The sight is installed in a transverse dovetail machined into the front sight base. A properly fitted sight should require controlled drifting into position, creating sufficient friction to prevent movement under recoil while still allowing windage adjustment during zeroing. Over decades of military service, repeated removal, corrosion or previous repairs may enlarge the dovetail, preventing a standard front sight from fitting tightly.
For rifles with an enlarged or worn dovetail, an oversized G43 Front Sight is also available. This version allows the gunsmith to carefully stone or file the base until an exact interference fit is achieved, restoring a secure installation without replacing the original front sight base. This method closely follows traditional armourer's practice and helps preserve original components wherever possible.
Throughout G43 and K43 production only minor manufacturing differences existed in the sighting components, and the basic installation principle remained unchanged. Correct fitting of the front sight contributes not only to reliable zero retention but also to maintaining the original appearance and function of the rifle's sighting system.
