The retainer for firing pin extension keeps the firing pin extension in place.
The firing pin and firing pin extension are more the less free floating in the carrier, they are kept in place by the retainer.
The retainer will fit through a small hole at the end of the carrier, the retainer can be bend over so it won't fall out if the carrier is removed from the bolt.
