Extractor for Browning Buck Mark and Challenger III pistols. Maintains reliable cartridge extraction and consistent cycling.
The extractor is responsible for gripping the rim of the fired cartridge case and withdrawing it from the chamber as the slide moves rearward. Working in combination with the extractor spring and extractor spring plunger, it maintains positive control of the cartridge case until it contacts the ejector and is expelled from the pistol.
The extractor claw is subjected to repeated contact with the cartridge rim and is therefore one of the primary wear components within the slide assembly. A worn, chipped or rounded claw may reduce its ability to retain the cartridge case, which can result in extraction failures or inconsistent ejection. Regular inspection of the extractor and its related components helps maintain dependable operation.
When installing a new extractor, the extractor recess should be cleaned thoroughly and checked for burrs or accumulated fouling that could restrict movement. It is also advisable to inspect the extractor spring and extractor spring plunger at the same time, as these components work together to provide the correct spring tension. Once assembled, the extractor should pivot freely while maintaining firm contact with the cartridge rim.
This extractor is compatible with Browning Buck Mark and Challenger III pistols, making it suitable for routine maintenance, repair and the continued reliable operation of these popular rimfire target pistols.
